Old Church

Dear Church Family,

God has been using First Baptist to make a difference for many years.  It all began 127 years ago with a handful of believers who desired a Christian witness in Alameda.  Today I look back over ten years of ministry here at First Baptist, grateful to God that I've had the privilege of being in ministry.  God has been ever faithful in providing for our needs and touching people's lives.  The journey still continues.  I wonder what God has in store for us?

Nothing is more exciting than when we, as a local church, are following God's leading.  The church is the hope of the world.  It is God's way of proclaiming the Gospel and making fully devoted Christ followers.

As a church, we want to be faithful to what God has called us to do.  Much has been happening at First Baptist during the past several months, and I want to take this opportunity to share some important information with you.  I wish that I could sit down over coffee with you and share personally, but obviously that is not possible.

The ministries of our church are a blessing, not only to our own members, but also to those individuals and families outside our walls.  However, due to our current monthly expenditures that must be used for our ministry/operating budget, we must focus on a solution to both maintain and improve First Baptist facilities.

Three years ago, with the future ministry needs in mind, a Facility Team of sixteen church leaders began an intensive study of our needs and our opportunities, guided by a simple but profound questions: What is God calling this church to be in 50 years?  After much discussion, prayer and even more prayer the Facility Team members personally gave $37,052 to hire architects and engineers to evaluate and guide our process.

We believe that we are taking the next steps in carrying out God's purpose for our future.  First Baptist Alameda has been entrusted with a magnificent journey.  Every person in the church, member, regular attendee, and visitor, is cordially invited and warmly encouraged to participate in, what we have named, the Journey of Faith Campaign.

Journey of Faith is the way for this solution.  It is our prayer to raise our level of giving in order to move forward in our ministry for the next 5 to 50 years.  This Journey of Faith is important to our future and you are vital to its success.  What we do together in the weeks ahead will shape what our church can do for years to come.

Your Fellow Traveler,
Pastor Clark
