Journey of Faith

Questions About the Capital Campaign

How was this decision to begin the campaign started?

Three years ago, a Facility Team of 16 church leaders met to begin an intensive study of our needs and our opportunities.  We were guided by one simple question, “What is God calling this church to be in 50 years?”  We wrestled with the issues and sought the Lord’s leading.  After much prayer and discussion, the Facility Team members personally gave $37,052 to hire architects and engineers to evaluate and guide our process.

Why are we building when not every seat is filled?

Phase I is about renovating our present sanctuary, not expanding our facilities.  It will include retrofitting the sanctuary for earthquake safety, improving the sound quality, lighting, and seating in the balcony for better visibility and accessibility, and improving our heating, ventilation, and electrical wiring.

Why do we need to make the church look “prettier”?

The largest part of the cost will go towards retrofitting the sanctuary to make it safer during an earthquake.

What if we do not raise all the money?

For now, our focus is on what God would do through us in this Journey of Faith. We would certainly rejoice to have Phase I paid for in the three-year period of this capital campaign!  If some amount of debt is anticipated after the campaign concludes, the Building Finance Committee will weigh all options and present a recommendation to the congregation.

When would renovation begin?

It will begin in the Spring of 2005 and is planned to be completed in the Spring of 2006.

What happens on October 24th – the Special Event Sunday?

We will all gather together at 10:00am for a service of celebration and dedication.  We will celebrate all that God has done and is doing, and the plans that God has in store for us all.   Everyone will be invited to complete a decision card for the Journey of Faith renovation project.  There will be a special lunch and time of fellowship afterwards.

What is expected of me?

Pray.  Seek the Lord’s guidance & will.  “Lord, what do you want to do through me here at First Baptist?”

Listen.  Listen to the Lord and the testimonies of others.  Seek out information so you can make an informed decision.

Share how God is speaking to you with others.

Turn your prayers into action by making a giving decision to give that honors God and is right for you.  Give sacrificially, above your regular giving to our present ministries and staff salaries, to the future of First Baptist.
